Why do I see "clk (GIF image, (1x1 pixels)" and web page is blank?

Recently I have tried to open several different web-sites, and nothing happens other than a box appears showing: "clk (GIF image, 1 x 1 pixels)". BT don't have an answer, perhaps you can help. The most recent one to do it was a Premier Inns sale notice page.
