I get this message in Windows Live Mail when linking to a website in an incoming email. I was advised to make IE my default browser and it certainly solved the problem but I then got syntax errors. I have now reverted to Firefox (which I would prefer to use anyway) but am stuck with the original problem.

Is there anything in Firefox I can do?

I resolved a similar issue by deselecting DDE in the Open dialogue for the relevant file type (html in my case).

Fix for XP, 2000: gives detailed step by step instructions: http://cyclecel.blogspot.com/2007/02/firefox-2002-command-to-program-error.html

- but for Vista up, Folder Options does not offer access to file types. So it's a little less obvious:

So the suggested way forward is to use a freeware program: I found 2.

1. Types: a free and lightweight configuration utility for Windows Vista that allows you to edit program associations, icons, context menus and other properties of various file types displayed in Windows Explorer. http://www.winvistaclub.com/t19.html

2. CreativeElementPowerTools: Editing file type properties in Vista upwards http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-500

Of these I found the second more comprehensive.

Hope that helps.
