My face book page/tab shows 26 pages open. How to stop and remove the 26 pages ?
When LI log onto Face Book it is slow, I normally go rhrough deleting non applicable content, currently unable to delete items.
More worrying is that my home page tab has a number nxt to it in brackets, this number goes up each time I sign into FB, it seems (?) FB is saving visited page somewhere, or Firefox is ?, and I ALWAYS log off, not just sigh out.
I appreciate probably not your problem but you chase your own taikl trying to reolve issues like this with FB.

Is your home page tab your email inbox? The number could indicate that you have that many unread messages, and if Facebook is generating sign-in notification emails, that would explain why the number of messages increments.

When you say you are unable to delete items, what kind of items are they? (I'm a very light user of Facebook myself.)

This could be a feature added by an installed and enabled extension.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
