why did I lose history, bookmarks and saved tabs

In the last couple weeks, I and my mom have lost ALL our history and saved mini-tabs when we didn't/don't have it set to clear history. What would make it lose ALL our profile information? I don't know if it coincides with a FF update because it does those automatically - but it shouldn't lose my pinned tabs with an update OR a cleared history. So what happened and how can I get my hard to find websites back; how do I keep this from happening again?

You may have a virus, somebody may have used your computer and altered things on Firefox or it could be an add-on/ plug-in you have that may be doing it.

Lets troubleshoot: Check for viruses by using http://www.malwarebytes.org/
