I can not download files with the .ashx extension

I am using a mac 0s10.6.8 and Firefox 11. I have a subscription with a magazine that has digital downloads but the files in in .ashx and I can not even download let alone open them. Any suggestions?

How are you accessing these .ashx files? Is there a link that you follow to get there? If so, can you download them by right-clicking on the link to the .ashx file and selecting the "Save Link As..." menu item?
