Hi, I keep getting the following message when I try to excute Thunderbird on my Windows 11 desktop:

"Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window."

I have gone off to Taskbar and looked for Thuderbird in the list of programs. It does not appear!

I have restarted my desk top, executed Thunderbird abd I get teh same message.

I have deleted Thunderbird from the desktop, shut down the PC. Restarted the PC and downloaded Thunderbird. I still get the same message when I execute it.

What else can I do about this?

Thank you

Hani

Hi Thanks for your quick reply. I have looked for the profile.lock file but cannot locate it. Hani

Hi again,

I found this file:

C;\Users\name..\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\hh209cc6.default-release as a parent.lock file.

I have deleted it but Thunderbird is still not working and I am getting the same error message.

As you can see in the kb article, there can be many reasons for the error. Check all of them, and as a last resort (but one that is often a quick way to recover), consider the last suggestion "Restoring data from a locked profile".
