I am running Firefox 59.0.2 on a Mac running OS X 10.11.6. My bookmarks will not export as html. I go to Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > 'star icon' > Export Bookmarks to HTML... and then name the file and then click Save and NOTHING HAPPENS. This was happening on Firefox 57 as well. I have tried everything available on the Mozilla support pages and guides and NOTHING WORKS. Why can't I export my bookmarks to HTML?

Two footnotes:

(1) If you have a lot of bookmarks, export and backup may be very slow.

(2) I have a page that can convert a .json/.jsonlz4 backup file to a .html export file if you want to try that.

The automatic backups are stored in your profile folder, in the bookmarkbackups folder. See: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
