Thunderbird disappeared, and when re-installed there was no calendar. I downloaded the current lightning, but now all my entries have vanished.

For no apparent reason today Thunderbird failed to open, and the file could not be found (it was fully up-to-date). I gave up looking, and downloaded it again. I now have two problems:

1. The calendar had disappeared. I downloaded the Lightning add-on and restarted Tbird. The calendar was now there, but blank, with no entries at all. I've tried several times restarting Tbird, and disabling and removing Lightning, then re-enabling or reloading as appropriate, all to no avail. I tried reading other solutions here, none of which worked. One solution talked about pref.js files, but I've no idea what he was talking about - clearly way above my pay grade. Can you please help me find my entries?

2. My addresses have all disappeared. I can open the address book, but there are no addresses in it.

I'm running Windows 7, fully up to date. I tried resetting the computer back three days, but this has not helped.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I downloaded Firefox 57 two days ago, decided I didn't like that I couldn't use BBCodeXtra, so uninstalled it and reinstalled 56. Since then, having restarted my computer, it has auto upgraded again to 57!

Please help me, guys! If the answer requires some complicated juggling of files hidden away in Appdata/Roaming, please spell it all out in full detail, step by step, as I'm not a geek (no disrespect to experts).

It sounds as if you lost your profile, or something similar. But you don't mention having to re-enter all your email accounts or losing stored messages.

Were your email accounts all intact?

Did you have any add-ons other than the calendar? Have they remained in place?

Hi Zenos, all my email accounts were intact. Tbird automatically downloaded them from my ISP, one.com, where they all reside in my web-based account.

I can't remember if there were any other add-ons, but if there were, they're gone now. I also have a Google calendar which was linked to the Lightning, and I still have it on my Android phone, complete with all the entries, but don't know how to reconnect it. If I could, that would restore my entries. I'm afraid I'm not very good at this...

I've just realised that I have a list of contacts on one.com, but on checking it, it is out-of-date. There is also a calendar there, but it is very out of date, so no real help there.

Thanks for your interest,

I've managed to download an .ics file of my appointments from my google calendar, but don't know what to do with it to get it to sync with my Lightning calendar. I tried to import it, but got this message: 57 item(s) were ignored since they exist in both the destination calendar and C:\My Zip Files\**************@gmail.com.ical\Colin Gmail_************@gmail.com.ics.
