TBird started with only the addressbook - profile is in the correct place and looks complete - what's up?

For no apparent reason, on opening TB to check emails, it opened with no folders and no messages - but addresses are available. Invited me to set up accounts.

Found profile folder, looks OK as far as I can see. What's happened.
