Firefox flashed an update prompt upon start up this morning like it was going to update. But never started. Now it only crashes and never starts, even if in safe mode. Tried multiple user profiles also. Just will not start.

Chosen solution

Backed up C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox. Downloaded new installer for 48.02 version of Firefox. Ran it. Browser came up clean with no settings lost.

This fixed my problem. Figure that the update must have been interrupted somehow, possibly by Lavasoft.

Was it from Firefox or a pop-up? There have been a flood of fake update messages all over the web of late.

Update/disable your Lavasoft

Thanks for the suggestion, however, Lavasoft was up to date. Tried disabling it. Didn't help. Uninstalled it. Firefox still won't load. I think the update from Mozilla started the problem. Checking what it will take to reinstall it and save the current settings.
