I have received a "phish"ing message spoofed from one my own (forwarding) email addresses. It asks to click on a link at "Sendgrid.net", which is surely a scam. I created a message filter to catch the text "Sendgrid.net" in the BODY and send it to spam folder but it does not work. I have to conclude that the link is not in the BODY of the message.

Is it possible to make this filter? (The message source is attached)

Thunderbird 78.3.1; Fedora 32.

As instructed in two other Thunderbird threads, I changed my yahoo IMAP e-mail account authentication to "OAUTH2" for 5 e-mail accounts. The changes were done on Sept. 19, Sept. 22, Sept. 25, Sept. 28, and Oct. 01. But on Oct. 06, I received a message from yahoo in each of the 5 accounts saying "Us again. Just a reminder that your Yahoo Mail account needs your attention before 20 October 2020. [... snip ...]". A sixth account that I have not yet changed also received the same message. I've had no problems using these 5 accounts in Thunderbird since making the changes.

How do I know whether or not my changes are correct and will satisfy yahoo's new authentication requirements? How do I test?

Also, is there a way to keep IMAP, and not have all accounts automatically signed in? And is there a way to keep IMAP and log out of specific accounts without closing Thunderbird?

Thunderbird 68.11.0 Fedora 31 (last patched Sept. 17) Gnome

I received the yahoo messages about sign-in changes coming next month. I saw the long thread in the Mozilla support about this. I did as that thread suggested.

  • I logged in to the e-mail account via Thunderbird.
  • I changed the Security Settings Authentication method to OAuth2.
  • I closed Thunderbird.
  • I logged out of my Fedora user account.
  • I logged back in to my Fedora user account.
  • I launched Thunderbird.

When I tried to go into the e-mail account, a small browser-like window appeared with the e-mail address already filled in. I clicked "Next". Then I get the message "Please reload the page and try again or use anothe browser.". Neither clicking "Next" again nor putting the cursor at the end of the e-mail address and hitting "enter" helps.

How do I log in to my yahoo e-mail account?

I do a lot of back and forth emails with clients and have to set Thunderbird's "message body" setting to "plain text" or it takes forever to load up a message because it could have hundreds of links and be over 100k in size.

I also have "allow remote content in messages" turned off.

The problem is that I want to toggle html/show remote content if I'm reading a message that needs it without changing the global message body settings but can not find any option to do so. There is an option to toggle remote content if I have the message body set to either of the html options but it goes away when set to plain text (which makes sense of course.)

What I'd like to be able to do is click a button or something to force reload of the message with remote content regardless of the message body settings.

Is this possible?

I use TB 68.8.1 with 4 AOL accounts, 3 of them are POP and 1 IMAP on a Windows 7 PC. AOL just sent a notice saying that by October 20th, I need to 1. download their apps to my devices, not going to happen, 2. continue using a 3rd party client but remove and add back the accounts to reconfigure for their new security or 3. use a 1 time app password that must be redone every time you sign out. This option seems cumbersome since my computer is not on all the time. Do I really need to remove the accounts and re add or is it just some settings to change? If I have to remove the accounts what about my messages that are not saved in specific local folders? I had the Import/Export Tools but it had been disabled many version ago as legacy. Can this be done by creating a new profile before and moving messages after adding the accounts again? I do have EMailchemy which can save the messages but not sure about getting back into TB. Thanks

Hi,

on GNU/Linux elementary OS I would like to use Thunderbird instead of the default mailer. Unfortunately Thunderbird crashes starting it. The problem has to be related to the fact that my user profile including the ~/.thunderbird profile is located on a network drive accessed with NFS v3 (Thunderbird start on local accounts without problems).

The crashreport:

BuildID: 20200629235513 CrashTime: 1595512260 InstallTime: 1595512038 ProductID: {3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6} ProductName: Thunderbird ReleaseChannel: release SafeMode: 0 SecondsSinceLastCrash: 60 StartupCrash: 1 StartupTime: 1595512260 ThreadIdNameMapping: Throttleable: 1 UptimeTS: .14031044 Vendor: Version: 68.10.0

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

The error message starting from command line is:

testuser@eos:~$ thunderbird ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 10627 ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal... testuser@eos:~$ thunderbird -safe-mode ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 10656 ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal... testuser@eos:~$ apt policy thunderbird thunderbird:

What I tried:

- switchting from 68.10 to 52.7, still crashing - starting both versions in safe-mode, still crashing - starting both versions after deleting ~./.thunderbird profile folder, still crashing

Any ideas?

I am not sure whether this was caused by an auto Windows or Thunderbird update, but I haven't changed any recent settings that should cause this to happen.

All email subjects, date, sender, etc. now display on white text and white background. Things like Stars and attachment icons display normally. If I click where the email "is", the email shows up properly. Having my mouse over to highlight the email shows that it is indeed white text on white background (as opposed to no text at all).

Things I have tried:

  • Changing Options > Colors (neither changing text nor background color appear to do anything)
  • Disabling/re-enabling my add-ons to change email color per account
  • Changing my theme
  • Changing Windows 10 default app theme (Light or Dark)

All of these with Thunderbird restarts each time. I have also, in general, restarted the PC.

Ideas?

The Help instructions for creating a List in Thunderbird are not working. The method I am trying to use is the 2nd option of highlighting email addresses in the address book and dragging them into the List. When I hover over the list there is a circle with a slanted bar inside indicating I cannot do that process. This process used to work for me previous to my having to re-install Thunderbird.

Three days ago, Thunderbird started to give me a "Sending of password for user xxx.xxx@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted.

I checked that it was accurate in the Saved Passwords panel and it is. I've entered it manually and still get the error message.

When I log onto Google from any browser with this account, it accepts the password. I can then access my gmail account with no trouble. My Firefox password manager shows the same password that is rejected by TB. My Gmail Android app on my smartphone and tablet also accept my logons with the same password. Only Thunderbird doesn't. I've tried deleting my pop.gmail.com login entry and re-creating it under the xxx.xxx@gmail.com account.

I had a Google Security warning 3 days ago, so suspect somebody might have hacked the account, changed the password, but didn't save his new password anywhere, so I have no idea what new password he might have changed it to. I am going to try changing my entire Google password and see if this will allow me to reset the TB password, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have several other gmail accounts on Thunderbird and all of my accounts use the same passwords set for their accounts.google.com under the separate gmail addresses. How do I find out what to do to fix it?

After upgrading Thunderbird from v68 to v78 over the weekend, everything looked fine, but then I realized some emails display badly with Windows 10 running in Dark mode. Changing the Windows settings to display apps in Light mode doesn't help (and make other parts of Windows Light instead of Dark mode).

What I'm trying to find in about:config is a flag to tell Thunderbird to run in Light mode as I can't see many of my emails. I can highlight the body, but that's just a lame workaround.

First image show how the text is unreadable because Thunderbird only changed the background layout, but not the text; Image on the right I highlighted the whole email so I could read the text.

I saw other suggestions that either require meddling with some .css file quite heavily, or installing some add-on that doesn't fix the problem.

We just need a configuration flag to prevent Thunderbird from using the Windows Dark Mode (or more generic, one that doesn't follow the Windows Light or Dark mode on us).

Thank you developers.

Is there a convenient means to tag an email so Thunderbird will notify me that an action is needed? For instance; I received an e-mail from the IRS that I need to respond to them on or before 11/11/20 or terrible things will happen. I'd like Thunderbird to pop-up a window and I fill in the date/time for the reminder. Sort of like adding a NEW TASK (CTRL-D) and certain fields are preloaded. [Title] is the email Subject and [Description] is text only from the body of the email. Everything else is default.

This would prevent terrible things and the world will be a better place.

If this would need some support I'll provide pizza and an adult beverage.

I just upgraded to 78.3.2, and the message list panel now has significantly more spacing, less denstiy. There is more whitespace between lines. And there does not appear to be any option to reset this back to the previous compact view?

EDIT: Adding a note about an additional issue with the message list panel that is discussed in this thread... Prior to v78.3.2, a message/line in the message list pane would not become highlighted until I *clicked* on it. Now, whenever I just pass my mouse over the list, the message under the mouse becomes highlighted (and the last message(s) *selected* also remains highlighted). This results in two or more non-adjacent messages being highlighted in the same way at the same time. This is a poor usability experience and dangerous design that has caused me to perform operations on unintended messages multiple times, even nearly accidentally deleting messages. This usability degradation creates a risk of data loss.

KEYWORDS: message thread pane, message list panel, UX, UI design, usability, accessibility

I've been using Thunderbird for years, but today when I started it, I got a predominantly blank screen. I finally uninstalled it, downloaded the latest version, and reinstalled it. I still get a more-or-less blank screen as shown.

If I click File > Get new messages for... it shows the accounts I have set up with Thunderbird, but clicking on "All accounts" or any individual account does nothing.

I had my Profile and my emails stored in folders other than the default ones, so I thought clicking on Tools > Options or Tools > Account settings would allow me to specify those folders, but once again nothing happens when I click the links.

Yet I get popups saying that I've received new mail, but it doesn't show up.

I've tried running Thunderbird in Safe Mode but this doesn't help.

What's wrong and how can I fix it?
