Copied Local Folder files show no content (empty) in Thunderbird

My friend's computer crashed. I was able to try and recover some of the data on the trashed disk that included Local Folders for his Thunderbird which contained non-extension files and .msf files (e.g. BMW and BMW.msf) He bought a new computer and installed Thunderbird. I assumed that if I copied the .msf and the non-extension file of the same name to the Local Folders directory on the new computer, he would have all the information recovered from those files. However, when I did that, the folders showed up but were empty. One folder, for instance, is "travel information" and is 18.7mb and the .msf file is 67kb. It would seem to me that there should be some content in that folder but it shows empty. Am I doing something wrong here or is it truly empty?

Ok I have been fighting this issue for over a month now and hope there is someone that can help.

For an unknown reason my domain hosting service server keeps blocking my IP address. It gets blocked after a few failed IMAP log in attempts. Thunderbird is set to NOT check email on startup or to check email at XX min. Only way I get mail is to click on the get messages button. When it gets blocked I have to send an email to the hosting provider and they will unblock it for 24 hrs. Not long after the 24 hrs time is up, the IP gets blocked again by the server for failed log ins.

I do not have any issue checking mail while the IP is white listed for 24 hrs. No failed log ins, no time outs. Each time I click the button Thunderbird checks for mail with no troubles. While blocked I can get email using my phone as a hot spot, never gets blocked. I went a full week out of town and did not get blocked. The IP is not always the same that is blocked but it is the active IP I am using at the time.

I have scanned the computer with Norton and Spy Hunter 5 and did not find anything of concern. Should I look at another anti virus app?

So does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help.

After an extraordinary amount of time and trouble I was finally able to reinstall Thunderbird but it looks different. There is no menu button for one thing, so I can't find the number of the version I am using. I know whatever it is, it no longer is compatible with McAfee anti-spam. It also used to open directly to my inbox, and now I have to click "read messages" to get my new messages. No tools or options etc. Is it possible to re-format it like the earlier versions?

I have just updated to TB 78 (Windows 10) and am slightly regretting it.

I don't like the bright blue icon that appears against each email account name in the folders pane.

I have 9 email accounts and in previous versions a bright blue account name alerts me that new unread mail has arrived in that account. However now (version 78) there is also a bright blue icon against every account name - even accounts that have no new mail and do not need my eyes attracted to them.

I would prefer any of the following: - no account icon - account icon always black - account icon same color as account name (i.e. turns from black to blue if new unread mail arrives)

Is there anyway I can customize version 78 to achieve any of the above?

With the same password I cannot access it on TB because it is allegedly a server error. I tried everything and then uninstalled TB and reinstalled it and tried to add my Yahoo acct and the same thing happened. I got a security key but don't know what to do with it if TB won't let me set up my acct.

I had to take my Mac in for repairs and due to COVID-19 it took a month to get it fixed. Before I dropped it off for repairs I copied my profile over to a Windows Box and used the profile with the latest version of Thunderbird. While using Thunderbird on Windows 10 something funny happened and I ended up with a large folder in the application being duplicated. I deleted the duplicate folder and now I want to compare the Windows Profile to the Profile on the Mac to make sure I have all of my emails still in the lasted Profile.

Is there a way to do an email to email compare between two profile? Thank you.

Does anyone know why Apple OS Voice Control does not work in Thunderbird? I wake up Voice Control, try to dictate a sentence in a new mail message window and nothing shows up. Dictation works in Ms Word, Safari browser, and all other apps.

My Macbook Pro used to have Dictation and Enhanced dictation. With the Catalina OS-- Enhanced Dictation was renamed "Voice Control". Standard dictation remains and it works in Thunderbird, but Voice Control is a lot better. The two cannot run simultanously. I am on 68.10.0 and Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6

Hope Accessibility is important and someone can assist. Wrist injury means I need dictation.

I've copied thunderbird folders from appData/local/localLow/roaming, and then pasted them in the same spot on new pc. Most of my account works except for few. The google ones seems to be fine, but my private not. When I 1st set them up when I send/received 1st email I had certificate pop up to accept which I did and I could use it. But now it does not give that option.

Initially I had

The configuration related to xxx.com must be corrected. ``` Now I had no idea how to do it, so I went to settings>certificate manager and I simply deleted the cerfs. But sadly thunderbird did not re-ask me to add them again.

Then I went to appdata found certs files and deleted them there by hand. Still no luck.

I'm out of ideas now, I don't want to delete accounts/create again as its a bit of pain...

Can any1 suggest any workaround? How to force tb to reinitialize account?

As in the topic, the issue happened to 2 different gmail accounts on my thunderbird client. Accounts were created in different times and circumstances and i believe in default settings. After fetching e-mails to my thunderbird client they were no longer available on the server. It took me quite a bit of time to figure out that it is thunderbird nothing else. The e-mails stay in the client mail and i can read them on it after server removal. I didn't find any working setting in Thunderbird that could help. It didn't happen to outlook or another e-mail account providers except gmail so far. What to do? Is this a Thunderbird bug?

I'm having an issue where Thunderbird stops getting emails every x minutes as it should, and when I trigger the retrieval manually, I get an error that states: The POP3 mail server does not support UIDL or XTND XLST, which are required to implement the "Leave on Server", Maximum Message Size", or "Fetch Headers Only" options. To download your mail, turn off these options in the Server Settings for your mail server in the Account Settings window.

If I close and reopen Thunderbird, it starts working again (with no changes to the account settings) for a few hours, then the issue comes back. There's been no changes to my account settings either from my ISP or in my Thunderbird setup. In the past, I've seen this error very sporadically, but now it's happening at least twice a day.

I can receive on all three accounts we have, but can only send out on two. All three have identical settings, and the port and smtp settings are identical and conform to the Medicom requirements. The failing account was then deleted entirely and recreated from scratch. Mediacom normally uses port 465 but also allows port 587. I mention this because the error message with Port 465 states "Login to server smtp.medicombb.net with user name ********@mchsi.com failed" whereas, when using Port 587 the message is "Connection to outgoing server smtp.mediacombb.net was lost in the middle of the message". All three accounts can be accessed and operated at the mediacom website, and all three passwords and account names have been verified on TB. Mediacom states the settings for POP3 as Incoming: mail.mediacombb.net SSL/TLS port 995

                                                                   Outgoing: smtp.mediacombb.net  SSL/TLS  port 467 (or 587)

Those settings have been used and verified. I would be very grateful for any assistance with this problem, as we are now at the point where Medicom says everything points to TB, but given the other two fully functional accounts, this is not obvious to me. Many thanks.

One of my local folders is not showing when I open Thunderbird. Under Local Folders, I see Sent, Trash, Outbox, AthruD, EthruG, and QthruZ. The HthruP folder (and all its subfolders and messages therein) are not there. When I search in Applications on my iMac hard drive, I find see these files: HthruP, HthruP.mozmsgs, HthruP.msf, and three versions of HthruP.sbd from various times on 7/26/20. How can I get Thunderbird to add HthruP to its list of local folders, given that that set of folders is still on my hard drive? My iMac has the latest version of Catalina as its OS. I've saved lots of important messages in HthruP.

I recently upgraded Thunderbird to 78.1.0. Upon startup I was waiting for a message to sync that I can see on my phone (I have not opened the message on my phone). I tried syncing several times with no success. Restarted PC and Thunderbird and confirmed solid internet connection. A suggestion I came across while troubleshooting was to "repair folder". Seemed easy enough. Well once I selected that option ALL MY EMAILS IN MY INBOX HAVE DISAPPEARED!

I have waited about 20 minutes with no messages appearing. Am I missing some major easy detail. I had no idea that an option called "repair folder" could result in the disappearance of all my messages. Trying to remain calm in hopes there is a simple fix. I apologize if this is a common issue that I am overlooking. I have tried to solve it with the extent of my knowledge.
