How do I stop the dozens of trojan emails I'm receiving everyday?
I started receiving emails out of the blue that I'm certain contain ransomware. They all have attachments and they all say something like, "your payment was declined" or "job offering attached" or "refund information on your last purchase attached"... I have one that claims to be from the FBI requesting help... How do I block this stuff? Why am I receiving it? It all started recently...

re :Why am I receiving it? ....because some nefarious person has your email addess. These are common, I get them in batches every now and then and I've had a few recently like you.
You cannot stop a server from receiving emails. Thunderbird just sees what is on server (imap) or downloads whatever is in the Inbox (Pop). Do not ever respond to any of these emails and never be tempted to open any attachment. Simply send to junk and empty the junk to delete them. Compacting Junk folder on a regular basis to completely remove all hidden but marked as deleted emails.
In Thunderbird you can set and train 'Junk Controls', which learn to identitfy what is junk based on what you mark 'As Junk'. There is no point in trying to create Message Filters for these types of emails as the sender will constantly modify parameters. Junk Control filters are designed to try and cope with those variants. Most of mine are auto sent to Junk now, only the odd one gets through.
