ff won't download files

I open ff and ask for a file to be dnldd - I get a connecting message and nothing after that. this happens on any site with any type file i tried safe mode - it works in safe mode I disabled all plugins and extensions - same result I deleted prefs, localstore, & mimeTypes files - same result save page function works

Also, I don't see anything in the download dropdown If I delete the profile, it recreates it and it now works -- so one of the files, other than the 3 I deleted, is the problem ???? which one ????

OK, here is the answer: XULSTORE.JSON

I replaced it with one from a good profile. I guess u can just delete it and let it recreate it. I think that is where I got the good one.
