New installs of fedora LXDE with FF-32, no addons (I've tried several times). Crash may occur while watching youtube video or when it is paused. Sometimes it crashes when opening an e-mail and the next time, same e-mail, it won't. I have reset FF to default, used new profile, reinstalled and upgraded FF. No difference. I have tried to run a backtrace per Fedora's guidelines but have not been successful.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences in the address bar and press enter

Select Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

FredMcD, thanks for responding.

I followed your directions and FF crashed about 10 minutes into watching a YouTube video.

I have previously tested FF using safe mode from the terminal and by selecting it from the menu to restart in safe mode both with hardware acceleration selected and deselected. All have crashed.

Dave.

I have no idea what this means, but;

Crash Reason SIGSEGV

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_signal

Bing search; http://www.bing.com/search?q=SIGSEGV

FredMcD,

I am not computer knowledgeable and don't know either. But, from a little reading it sounds like something is trying to access memory it is not allowed to access. This is triggering the SEG fault. I am reading about debug programs that are supposed to find the offender and the address of the error. So far, its way over my head, but I persevere.

I have run the BIOS diagnostics and memtest.ram and neither have found a hardware memory problem. I have 8 gig of RAM and no other program has any issues with it. So I suspect still that it is a softway (congif?) issue.

Thank you for your help.

Dave.

more options

Well here I am now.

I have installed Firefox, Madori, Seamonkey and Chrome. All of them crash on youtube videos. Not the same ones in each browser, and not the same ones each time. All of the reasons imply a SIGSEGV fault number 11, something to do with memory.

My Dell 4310 is rated for up to 8 gig and I had installed 2 x 4 gig sticks. I have tested them with everything I've got and they test good. I decided to return to the 2 x 2 gig sticks that the puter came with. No crashes in 24 hours of back to back you tube videos running 1-3 at a time in different tabs.

I think I am going to ask some hardware folks and see if there is something I can do about memory allocation that will help.

Otherwise, I'm at a loss.

Dave.

more options

This is getting to be a headache.

more options

I agree. I've been trying to figure this out for over a week. I do ask for help but I also do my share by reading and researching every comment.

The frustrating part is that Fedora with Firefox has worked out of the box for me since F-17, at least for me. Now F-20 wants to be the 2 year old in the room. Well, until somebody shows that I'm the 2 year old.

Currently, I have seen that others have had problems with memory. Apparently not all memory with the same specs are the same. Apparently some memory have components that don't play well with Dell. I am in the process of running that clue down.

BTW, I do appreciate the effort that others invest on my behalf. Thanks to any and all for that.

Dave.

I am not an expert, but I do know that some memories can be detected by the system automaticlly. But there are some memories that need a sub program for the computer to use it.

I called for more help for you.
