Video has stopped working on two laptops?
Video has stopped working on Firefox 58.0.1 64 bit. It will not work at all on the BBC or Youtube or any of a number of sites I have checked. Catch up radio on the BBC iplayer radio works fine. Video is working fine with MS edge.
I have two Windows 10 computers (ASUS Laptop Home edition and Toshiba Laptop Pro edition). There is some video that keeps stopping on the ASUS, it is so bad that it is unusable. I have tried resetting bot of them and I have reinstalled FF on the Toshiba, all to no avail. There was an update to Windows a few hours before the problem emerged but I had used the ASUS for Video shortly after the update was installed and it was fine then, so I don't think the update has caused this? I have tried disabling flash so that the HTML 5 system will operate- didnt work either. Re enabled flash video- no use.
As this has occurred on two different laptops I am fairly sure this is a FF problem that Mozilla will have to fix, but I would welcome any advice. Thank you.

Make sure you are not blocking content.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Please provide public link(s) (no password) that we can check out. No Personal Information Please !
Thank you. Starting in safe mode has worked and I have now discovered that it was harware acceleration that was causing the problem and have disabled it. Video now working normally on my Toshiba but not on the ASUS.
I am curious to know why this problem suddenly occurred when video had been fine previously and I had not changed any settings myself?

hi, could you please go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of the graphics section on that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...
Hi Philipp, Thanks for your help with this. The problem seems to be partly solved by disabling hardware acceleration. But this has worked only on my Toshiba (where there was no video). On my ASUS the problem was very jerky video and disabling hardware acceleration has made only a slight improvement and as such Firefox on the ASUS laptop is still not viable. As requested details from Troubleshooting/Graphics is pasted below. Appreciate anything that will work but please bear in mind i have reset/restarted/reinstalled FF already.

Video is now working properly on both my Laptops. The ASUS one took longer to adjust but it seems ok now. Thanks to both advisors. I will not mark this as solved for a few days in case the problems recur.
The situation with my ASUS video is unstable on FF. It depends on the site and varies in quality from time to time. The equivalent videos when played on MS Edge are aboslutely fine. I am going to work now but will try again in about six hours. As the ASUS seem to have gradually but unevenly improved perhaps it will be ok then. I am now not sure that the problem is completely rsolved with the Toshiba either as I haven't had a chance to check whether the improvement there is permanent.
