Where are Firefox bookmarks saved to?

more options

The motherboard on my HP laptop fried and I'm having to buy a new machine. The computer repair place did manage to recover all of my data and backed-up the entire "Users" folder under the C: drive (thankfully). I never took the time to do any sort of manual backup of the 30 or so bookmarks I had in my Firefox program during the 5+ years that I used my HP laptop. Was Firefox automatically saving my bookmarks somewhere in a file under the "Users" folders? If so, where I can look to see if I can find these bookmarks?

Thanks in advance!

First, make sure you can see hidden files and folders. Microsoft has the steps here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

Then you can drill down into the Users folder to find your old profile folder as described in this article: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

In particular, you should find a folder named bookmarkbackups which contain compressed backups you can restore to your new installation of Firefox.

The Restore feature will replace the default Firefox bookmarks (and anything you just added since the Reset) with the older set of bookmarks. If you need to preserve newly added bookmarks, use the export feature first, before the Restore, and then the Import feature afterwards. The following articles have the details:

Thanks! That sounds like it will work. I don't have my new laptop yet, but I will hang on to this response and try the steps when I get my new machine. It should be sometime in the next week.

I suggest keeping a copy of the entire profile folder in case it takes some time to realize there was irreplaceable data in there.
