Hi, My inbox shows that there are messages in the inbox but it does not display them. Any action on the inbox gives the msg. "The current operation on "inbox" did not succeed. The mail server for account (my Optimum acct) responded: IMAP4 server terminated connection." I can see the messages on the Optimum website.

I forwarded my incoming mail to a Gmail account and can see the incoming msgs there. Also as can see them on my Apple phone.

Upgraded to latest version of Thunderbird. No help. Other folders seem okay. When I look at the ImapMail folder, I see the msf file for INBOX but I do not see a file for the inbox emails.

I am on Windows 11 and use MS Defender for security

Please help - Thunderbird is my workhorse and contains all my important files. Thank you! Carol

I got the migration to basically work, except the message filters did not get migrated, and the account password did not migrate (for the email hand-shake). Putting in the password for the email system was easy. Re-writing 200 rules, not my idea of a good evening's work.

Is there some way to get the system to read in the message filters? I have the same problem with my wife's system that I migrated over to W10. I'm going to have to re-write all of her rules as well.

Profile Not loading after Clone HDD to SSD

Not a newbie by far but I've never seen this happen before.

Cloned the HDD to an SSD for a client as per usual. The client calls me later stating Thunderbird opened and asks to set up an account. I log in remotely and verify all the paths in profile.ini etc. Everything is as if was before the clone of course. I can see all the folder and file structures as they should be.

Ok, I decided to mount the image of the disk and inspect the files. Looks perfect. Thought I would copy the profile and reload it into the disk as a test. That's when I got 3 errors that these files were corrupt. As follows.

I've talked to multiple colleagues and we are all like whats going on here? Long tome TB user currently on 102.5.0 under W10. For some time now, when I start TB, about 50% of the time it will report that TB is already running and it won't start. If I go to Task Manager I usually find 6 TB processes running and once I have ended them all, I can then start TB.

Further research shows that after the PC is started there are nearly always a number of TB processes running even though TB has not been started.

A number of questions really: Why are TB process running before it's started? (It's not a 'startup' program) When TB fails with the 'already running' message, why does the 'Close TB' option always fail? ... and overall, how can I get it back to working properly! Thanks

About 2 months ago I started getting errors accessing Yahoo mail in Thunderbird. I deleted the account and set up my IMAP according to the recommendations on the Yahoo site for third party apps. I have TB 102.4.2 64 bit on my HP desktop running Ubuntu 22.04. I have repeatedly, at least 20 times reconfigured to no avail. I have used TB with no problem for over 10 years. Back a few months ago I did set an application password for Yahoo as well.

I have looked at the solutions posted over and over again but no suggestions work.

Here are my settings: Incoming mail: Server Name: imap.mail.yahoo.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 User Name: Myname@yahoo.com

Few days ago it stopped working! I noticed that the certificate for it is invalid (tho I'm accessing it via http, but not https). I added a security exception for it, so the certificate could be accepted, but it is still not functional and returns an error for invalid certificate. Any help?

Using Thunderbird 102.4.1 - have not upgraded for a few days and program was working fine. Switched on today and inbox was rebuilt - and then all the messages are there but the From / To / CC fields are all blank on the message pane. When I reply to a message all the information is available. The From/To/CC is also visible on the summary pane. Same issue on all messages in every folder. Tried to restart in troubleshooting mode with addons disabled but made no difference. I have Header Tools Lite addon - disabled that but does not fix the issue. On Windows 11 and everything was working fine until this morning.

I have Thunderbird set up with four email accounts. Recently, one of them has started saving Sent emails in the Local Sent folder. (Until I found this I thought that they were not being saved at all). Checking the Account Settings shows that the 'Place a copy in' option is correctly set to save in the Sent folder of that account. (see attachment) Can anyone suggest why this has happened and how I can fix the problem? All the other three accounts save in the correct Sent folder.

Hello, I have setup filters in thunderbird for automatic deleting SPAM-emails that contain words like "viagra" "sex" etc.

In rare cases these filters have a flase positive = deleting a non-SPAM-email caused by a keyword of the filter. The filter is setup as logic or-conditions if text contains "viagra" or "sex" or "...." etc. For the false positives I would like to know which keyword did match with the filter-conditions to adapt the filter-conditions.

So if there exists some kind of an add-on for thunderbird for filtering which has a detailed log-function this would be great.

P.S.: Of course my email-providers say they use SPAM-filters on their side. But my experience the provider SPAM-filtering lets through some of the SPAM.

As I'm writing here about anti-spam: does anybody know of a SPAM-filter with radical whitelist plus auto-reply for unknown email-adresses and auto-inserting new sendemails to the whitelist?

On Mac OS 13 (Ventura), Thunderbird lists Mac OS X Address Book but it is empty. On Mac OS 12 (Monterey), Thunderbird can see (under the same entry) all my contacts (iCloud and on my Mac).

On Monterey: Mac OS System Setting: Security & Privacy > Contacts has Thunderbird as item that can receive permission to read the Contacts on the system. On Ventura: Thunderbird is no longer listed on Ventura in the same entry.

I have re-installed Thunderbird after upgrading to Ventura. But that has not helped.

I've changed PC's and done a fresh install of TB and imported my old email messages from my previous installation... all working so far :) . Problem arising is with digitally signing messages.

I have acquired two new certificates (one mine, one my wife's. Separate accounts on same TB installation). I imported both certificates and selected each one under S/MIME in the appropriate accounts, but... TB will not allow me to select Security > Digitally Sign (will not "tick") when creating a new email .

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Until very recently I could go into any folder and just put a word and it would do a search of that folder, but has stopped doing that now. I can be in same folder and put a name and that works fine.

Does anyone know how I can get the normal response that I have had for many, many years please?

Hi all - downloaded Thunderbird on a new laptop a month ago (specs fairly similar to the Dell Inspiron). Initially messages worked just fine - popups, sounds, the works - but after I added my Gmail a few days after install, every message in my default account is automatically marked as read no matter what settings I tweak. I even added the Mailbox Alert extension hoping it would override the automatic marking as read for the default account, but no luck.

The gmail works just fine - regular sounds and popups for new emails. My default account is a custom domain, but it's a standard IMAP server just like the gmail, so no POP3 shenanigans going on there.

My current Thunderbird version is 102.5.0 64bit, but the problem has been present since 102.4.0 64bit, on W10 Pro.

Ahead of time, I am not using Bitdefender.

I have multiple email accounts in my Thunderbird, and 2 of them have S/MIME certificates. The digital signing of emails by default is enabled in both accounts. The certificates are valid and not expired. Today I had sent a signed email (not encrypted) from one of these two accounts to the other one, and I noticed that the S/MIME icon in the received email has a red exclamation mark. When I click on it, the message box says "Digital Signature Is Not Valid". I did several tests and found, that this only happens when the email contains non-ASCII characters and the encoding changes from "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit" to "Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable".

The easiest way to reproduce is: Send an digitally signed, but not encrypted email from an email account with S/MIME certificate to any other email account. The subject is empty, the email body contains only one single character: "ä". (German Umlaut, a with 2 dots above it). You may also use other characters like "ö, ü, ß, €".

The wrong signature in the received email is noticed not only by Thunderbird, but also by other email software (e.g. Android FairEmail), which means the failure happens during creation of the email in Thunderbird and it's not a decoding problem of Thunderbird.

I also managed somehow to send emails with text that contains these characters and has "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit"; however, these emails are signed correctly.

Please tell me whether I should open a bug report in bugzilla.mozilla.org; I assume that Product="MailNews Core" and Comp="Security: S/MIME" would be the right parameters.

Here's the source of one of the faulty emails (subject="Test", body="ß"). Since the email contains only the public key, it should be no problem to reveal it.

Hi, I needed to clean up my Inbox as there were a few corrupted emails there which couldn't be deleted and prevented the Compacting process. Firstly I created a new temporary folder and moved (dragged) all the good emails to this folder. I then ran a Repair Folder on the Inbox and all the corrupted emails disappeared - all good so far. I then attempted to move all the emails from the temporary folder back into the Inbox folder - this removed all the emails from the temporary folder but nothing appeared in the Inbox. I checked all my other folders and the emails are nowhere to be found. Please advise how I can get all my missing emails back. Thank you

I'm looking for a way to prevent a certain directory/folder from being synchronized automatically by Thunderbird. The background is, that there is a SPAM IMAP directory where my email provider places emails marked as SPAM. I don't want those emails to get into Thunderbird at all. Would be cool to have a checkbox for each main IMAP folder, if it shall be ignored. Thanks in advance!
