A lot of google related pages are redirected to the firefox start page

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

This computer has nothing to stop Viruses or other malware softwares!

I think that the first advice about checking Firewall cannot be effective, but the second may be. (Also note that IE6 and the latest Google Chrome that I installed last night work well will google.com and gmail.com)

Please consider that even firefox brings some google pages like http://google.com/firefox, code.google.com, google image search (with the normal URL, maybe search.google.com or google.com/search).

I've been sure that it depends on the URL that we query. The URL `http://google.com/` results to the blank page, but another URL (that I don't exactly know) that I had requested last night had no problem! The last URL also brought google Search first page. I could also search using that corrent page.

But searching google using any of the methods were failed:

• Search using the address bar
• Search using the search bar (to the right of the address bar)

Now with these assumptions, do you still belive that the malware check can be effective?

Sorry about offering you a solution for Windows. I did miss that you are on Linux, so you can forget about scanning for malware.

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
