This morning I was cleaning firefox data, like cookies ..., and restarted firefox and noticed my bookmarks bar was empty. I then tried adding them again. For example going to Gmail and adding it to the bookmarks bar as always, but it was still empty. I then tried restoring Firefox to default settings and I got to see "Most visited" on my bookmarks bar but still cannot add anything nor see all my bookmarks that were there before.

Please could you help as I need those bookmarks.

Chosen solution

You can try this: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore, and see if you have a recent backup there. Note that it will overwrite all your existing bookmarks.

You can open the 3-bar menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then near the bottom look for Places Database and click on Verify Integrity, then restart Firefox - Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues. If that doesn't help, you may have a corrupt places.sqlite file in your Profile. For that, and other things to check, please see - Can't add, change or save bookmarks - How to fix.

Hi, hold down the Shift key when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode. More - Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

If it works in Safe Mode, disable your theme and add-ons - Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Themes/Extensions and restart Firefox; then if it's OK, re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit. You may need to restart Firefox after enabling some add-ons.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!
