After latest update Thunderbird cant send or receive emails. My settings are correct mail.charter.net port 993 outgoing mail.charter.net port 587.

Tells me I have a server error and is constantly asking for my password. HELP!!! I have been with Thunderbird since the beginning and have sent money to the cause, and now I need your help.

Thanks, Pam

What OS are you using? What version of Thunderbird are you using?

Using a browser, logon to your webmail account. Did you manage to logon to your webmail account? It's important to know because it confirms the password works.

Maybe it would be a good time to modify the current password whilst logged on to webmail account.

Did you modify/alter the account password?

Have you checked to see if there is an outage in your area ? There are a couple of people saying issues with Spectrum server, what area are you living in ? Maybe the others are in same area.

After the update, maybe you have a firewall which blocking access to latest Thunderbird.

Firewall: The Firewall might be the default that came with computer OR it might be controlled by an Anti-Virus product you installed.

  • Exit Thunderbird.
  • Access the Firewall and set up the Thunderbird program as an allowed program.
  • Confirm: Thunderbird is set up as an allowed program

What Anti-Virus are you using ? Some are well known for causing issues after an update or even if they have had an update and it's just a coincidence.

Thanks for your donations and support to Thunderbird. It's used to help keep the product up to date with various requirements regarding security etc. It also helps to pay towards this Support forum facility. Please note, there is a difference between Mozilla donation and Thunderbird donation. They are not the same.

People who offer help on this forum are other Thunderbird users from all over the world. So, you may find a lag in communications due to timezone. We are not Thunderbird employees and we offer our time in an unpaid voluntary capacity.

This is likely a Spectrum issue. So you're probably better off checking their support forum. https://community.spectrum.net/categories/email-22

Thank you one and all for trying to help. My operating system is Windows 11 Pro, my area is Florence Oregon, USA. I have tried to change the password. I have spoken with Spectrum and they have done everything except stand on their head to try to repair this. They find nothing wrong. My Webb mail works perfectly. I have tried to change my password that is to no avail. All of this started after Thunderbird updates.. My donation went directly to Thunderbird, I don’t use Mozilla. I use chrome for a browser. I’m really stuck. I guess I’m gonna have to abandon all of the info because I uninstalled Thunderbird reinstalled it and I can’t get through the server to put in my ID and password for the new install.

After reinstall of Thunderbird, did you access Firewall and set up the Thunderbird program as allowed?

We need to be sure that the Firewall is not blocking Thunderbirds access to server.

What Anti-virus are you using ?

I spent about 4 hours with Spectrum, seems things are better and working. My next stop is Netgear to make sure my router is working properly, I plugged my laptop into the modem bypassing the router and TB was working. TB update didn't help either, I think I had a perfect storm. I am fine for now but I don't trust what might come later. Thank Gawd I backed up! Thanks for all your suggestions, I sure under most circumstances all of them would have worked. Pam In Florence
