I've tried setting up Thunderbird archiving according to the documentation to save archived messages locally, and in the same hierarchy they had when I archived them. That is, if I have:
INBOX
Box1 Box2
... etc. then archiving would create a parallel structure in Local Folders
However, this isn't working.
I select "Keep message archives in Other (Archives on Local Folders).
For "Archive Options" I select "A single folder", "Keep existing folder structure of archived messages" and "Recreate inbox folder".
However, when I archive something, Thunderbird just creates a folder "2026" (this year) and puts the message in there.
Why are my settings NOT working?

Hi all — I’m running into a persistent threading issue in Thunderbird (v.148) vthat survives profile rebuilds and affects only specific conversations.
Symptoms Some threads show the expand/collapse carrot normally.
Other threads (same accounts, same folders, same time period) do not show the carrot.
The pattern is consistent: the same conversations fail before and after a full profile rebuild.
Both Inbox and Sent show a mix of threaded and unthreaded conversations.
No global setting seems to be wrong, because most threads work correctly.
What I’ve already checked mail.strict_threading = false
mail.thread_without_re = true
View → Sort By → Threaded
View → Threads → All
Folder Repair on Inbox and Sent
Full profile rebuild
Re‑added all accounts
Rebuilt .msf files
Verified that threading works across folders (Inbox ↔ Sent)
Verified that threading works across accounts
Verified that threading works for most conversations
Header checks For the conversations that do thread, headers look normal.
For the conversations that don’t thread, the headers also appear normal:
Message-ID: present
In-Reply-To: present
References: present
No obvious corruption, malformed IDs, or missing brackets.
What I’m trying to understand Why would Thunderbird:
Successfully thread most conversations
Fail to thread specific conversations
Preserve the same failures before and after a rebuild
Show carrots in Inbox but not in Sent for the same conversation
Show no global misconfiguration
Is there a known edge case where Thunderbird rejects a thread even when the headers appear correct?
Are there hidden rules about ambiguous References: chains, multi‑server storage, or cross‑account BCC workflows that could cause this?
Any insight into how Thunderbird decides not to show a carrot would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I've moved last week from Microsoft Outlook from Mozilla Thunderbird on my MacBook Pro laptop for managing my e-mail accounts.
I've added an Outlook account (e-mail xxx@hotmail.com) to Thunderbird. However after using Thunderbird a few days I've discovered that some sub-folders in my private folders are missing.
I've added in attachment an image showing my folders on my mobile phone (using Microsoft Outlook) and an image showing my folders on my laptop (using Thunderbird where both 'Bureau' and 'Instruments & Lumières' are missing).
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards, David

just installed thunderbird on my new windows 11 laptop (samsung galaxy book 5) and tried to add my comcast email account. i entered the address and password and it took me to an xfinity web page to validate my password for imap.comcast.net. since i'm not on my home network it send a code to my mobile phone which i entered successfully. it then asked my for the address on my account. i entered it and it told me it didn't recognize the address! I called comcast and finally got to speak with a human (no mI'veean feat). We verified that my xfinity account allows third party applications to access my email. That's pretty much all the help she could give me. i've run thunderbird on my home windows 10 desktop with no issues accessing my comcast email. Has anyone encountered this problem? does it have to do with windows 11 settings? any help would be appreciated.

I had 12 important draft messages in my "drafts" subfolder of one of my e-mail accounts. This e-mail account is a work e-mail based in Outlook, and I use Thunderbird to download those e-mails to my laptop, and to compose e-mails. The 12 messages in that Thunderbird folder suddenly disappeared, and have also disappeared from my "drafts" folder in Outlook. (The Thunderbird and the Outlook accounts are linked.) I did not change any settings. This has never happened before. Those missing e-mails do not appear in the "deleted items" folder in Thunderbird or in Outlook. It is extremely frustrating and is causing problems at work.
Oddly, my Thunderbird listing of folders still shows the number "12" next to the name of the "drafts" folder. But, there are no e-mails visible in that folder. All my other Thunderbird folders for this e-mail and for my other e-mail are working properly. Please help.
