Firefox self-installed an update a few days ago. It added the "screenshot" button on the toolbar at the top of the screen. Ever since then the product is extremely unstable. The crash has the following signature: @0x0 | gl::Context::~Context

I'm not sure how to fix it. I've uninstalled Firefox, redownloaded it, and installed it again. I tried to refresh Firefox but the feature doesn't appear to work. I'm not sure what to do to reconcile this problem but the product was fine and stable before the recent update.

Not sure how to go about submitting further info for analysis. If you tell me to do so please give me clear instructions. I'd like to keep using Firefox but it suddenly became unusable with the update.

Regards, RD

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Under the help tab, the two options to refresh firefox or to start without extensions (safe mode) do not do anything. When you click on either, Firefox crashes and restarts, and the extensions are still there.

I can disable the extensions one at a time, but doing so does not cause Firefox to become stable. Firefox remains unstable.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.
