I have Windows 8. I have the latest versions of IE and Firefox. I have Adobe Flash 12.0.0.44 downloaded. I had to do so in IE. I was not able to download it in Firefox. I did download Adobe Shockwave 12.0.9.149 in Firefox and enabled it in the plug ins. It still tells me that I need to download Adobe Flash Player. I have it downloaded. In firefox, when I try to download it again, it tells me that my antivirus software must allow me to download software, which it does. I have allows disabled it and it still doesn't work. It doesn't show the yellow download now bar that shows up in IE. I need FF for proper use of my company website. I can watch videos on youtube/espn just fine in IE but it still tells me to download it when I'm in FF. I have exited FF multiple times but have not restarted my computer if that's the case. I will now. Otherwise, please advise what steps I may need to take.

SWEET. There was Browser Safeguard on here. I uninstalled and everything works now. It was installed a month before I started working here. Thanks for the help!

Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.44 Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.9.149 - per More System Details

You have two versions of Flash appearing in Firefox plugins, and that is probably confusing Firefox.

Use the Adobe uninstaller to get rid of all versions of Flash, then install the latest Plugin version (for Firefox). IE uses the ActiveX version; you may need to re-install that version, too..

I'm still getting the same result. I still allows me to download it in IE but not FF. I attached a screenshot of FF on Adobe download page. Nothing shows up to click. In IE it shows a yellow download now button as well as google chrome info under optional offer. I've uninstalled all my flash multiple times. This computer is only 3 weeks old so there's nothing on here. I'm not sure if it's just a setting in FF or what? Because on this current page it, it won't encrypt the images so i just see plain text. I also have to approve every site I go to which is very annoying.

I got it. There's gotta be something wrong with Adobe's site. I was able to download it from a 3rd party site which is risky. It works fine now. Now I need to figure out how to encrypt images on these websites and for to not prompt me to accept the untrusted network everytime when it's a firefox site or espn or other major site.

Hi berfort, if Firefox doesn't trust any secure sites, this can indicate a problem with your system clock, or with your security software.

On the latter point, when you expand the "Technical Details" of the error page, you usually see this error code:

  • sec_error_untrusted_issuer

A common problem recently is Firefox not being set up to work with your security software. Some security suites include a filtering feature. In order to filter secure connections (HTTPS URLs), the security software presents a fake certificate to Firefox so it can intercept and stand in the middle of the secure connection. To have Firefox trust these certificates, you may need to do something such as import a root certificate, or click something in your security software's settings.

Of course, the problem also could be caused by spyware.

If you have added Exceptions, please check the "Issued by" section on one or two of the exceptions you've made to learn more about the source of this issue.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Certificates mini-tab > "View Certificates" button > Servers tab

Click a certificate and use the View button. The kind of issuer you might find is:

  • Name associated with your security software, such as ESET, BitDefender, etc.
  • Sendori (indicates unwanted software from Sendori)
  • FiddlerRoot (indicates unwanted software named similarly to BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard)
  • Something else

If you have not added Exceptions, you can click the Add Exception button in the error page, then in the dialog click View Certificate or Get Certificate to see the Issued by section. You do not need to finish adding an exception.

What do you see?

It says FiddlerRoot for a lot of them. Is that a bad thing? How can I change this? I can only see plain text on Firefox and Facebook, etc.

Unless you intentionally installed and intentionally run the Fiddler debugging tool, then it indicates some malware you need to remove.

Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent additions to the top.

(Note: I assume this still exists in Windows 8 somewhere...)

Look for anything with a name similar to BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard, etc., as a candidate for removal. Also, grouping by date helps identify items that were installed as part of a bundle. Consider whether those other items are trustworthy.

Finally, you could mop up with some of the scanning/cleaning programs in this article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Oh, and remove those bad exceptions.

With my old XP laptop I had the same problem. Flash Player works on IE but not with any FireFox 18..22 versions I tested

I tried with several FP versions. Flash movies worked on IE but not on FF, and I got report "You need to install FPlayer 10.1 or newer version". This simple test site told me Flash was not installed on FF and was installed on IE. http://isflashinstalled.com/

I did several complete un-install and install operations. I even used the Uninstall tool on Adobe site.

Finally I tried this "FlashDisable 0.9.4" FireFox add-on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashdisable/?src=api This add-on is intended to allow user to turn Flash Player on and off, when needed.

After installing this, I clicked Flash Player ON, restartef Firefox. Finally Flash Player started to work as it should. Also the test site above now reported FP is installed.
