Hello, I have a problem with Firefox crashing about 2-3 times every day. I have a feeling it is mostly while watching videos or photos but non only - happens also for sites like fb or e-mail. I updated Windows, I checked the viruses, I checked the RAM and all the hardware (RAM has been changed lately and it shows one error, but Firefox had been crashing already before the change), I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and all add-ons and plugins, practically I did everything I could. Finally I tried the Firefox safe mode, and it crashes anyway. The latest Report ID is: bp-a3c68828-7ed6-4949-984f-e23942140212

Yes, as I said, I checked it and it still happens.

Figuring out the cause of a crash can be difficult. If you've tried the steps above and can't get Firefox to stop crashing, the steps below will show you how to collect information about your crash so our volunteers can help you.

Get the Report ID of your latest crash report:
If you can open Firefox, at least in Safe Mode:
In the Firefox Location bar, type about:crashes and hit Enter. A page listing submitted crash reports will appear.
Right-click on the latest crash under Report ID and choose Open Link in New Tab. A tab will open to a page on crash-stats.mozilla.com, saying that "Your report is being processed". When it is finished processing, close the report tab.
If you can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode:
Click the Windows Start button, and press Windows Key + R. Type in "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted" (including the quotation marks) and click OK.
In the resulting folder will be a text file for each crash report you have submitted. Using the View menu, arrange them by date to find out which is the newest file; and double-click on it to open it.
Click this link to ask for help with your crash.

I've already done it, in my first post I included the Report ID of the latest crash.

P44: You might want to read up on Helping with crashes as a new contributor. That will come in handy in lots of cases.

kass84:

You are correct. The Helping with crashes is indeed for us support helpers.

I looked up your bug report with your provided link and it appears there are a ton of bugs filed for it, one is marked NEW and has a long progress in it. View Bug 719114 - Firefox crashes @ js::GCMarker::processMarkStackTop It is solved as WONTFIX for FX26 since it's EOL with FX27's release.

This crash is probably related to one of your extensions. Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:
FirefoxSafeMode

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

It crashes in the Safe Mode also. I had checked it as recommended on Firefox website before posting my problem on forum.

It crashes in Safe Mode, too? Alright then. If it's crashing in Safe Mode as well, then you might want to do a clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Thank you.

OK, thanks, I did it and I'll let you know what happens next. But anyway I had reinstalled it also before, via Windows control panel though.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
