I need a faster fox, recently I went into safe mode only to learn my FF is still slow! So that means its the fox itself. Great.

Okay, so I know there are alternate browsers out there which supports all the same crap (userchrome files, extensions, user scripts, user styles, preferences, etc.) and I gotta wonder if theres a better way. So my question is:

1. Which alternate versions exist

and

2. Which one is the lightest when it comes to PC.

Also, 3. and I just thought of this one now, even though I have flashblock installed whenever I run flash its obviously one of the things that slows it down alot. Are there lighter versions of flash player? Or anything else you can reccomend to increase speed?

4. No. I will not switch to chrome. Screw that.

Try the following to make Firefox faster:

Update to Firefox 24 Update Firefox to the latest release

Reset Firefox: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

What specifically is slow? Startup? Internet Load times, etc.

I'm talking anything that requires cpu. My mouse even freezes sometimes when I'm using the fox. I have 5 gigs ram, portable version of FF, 2.4ghz processor. And yes, I'm still in safe mode when all this happens. Why do you say updating to V24 will speed it up? Did they make any major adjustments to that version?

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

And reseting the fox is the last thing I would ever do. As a matter of fact, without FEBE, it would be impossible. I would never. And since I am restoring everything anyway whats the point? And since I am on safe mode, It should be reacting the same as if I had never installed a single extension, making that pointless anyway cause its still slow!

Thanks for the tip, I'll try disabling hardware acceleration. And all my drivers are up to date.

Did the hardware acceleration trick work? or you havent tried it yet?

I tried it as soon as I posted, but I need some time to compare and contrast. I'm doing it in safe mode again so my extensions cannot interfere. I'm gonna go back to youtube and test it for an hour or two, or less if its a very drastically apparent speed difference, and then I will post my findings here.

Ok, its alot better now, but I am still experiencing slowdown, most annoying of which is when I am typing and it takes like 20 frickin characters of typing, or more! before I can actually see what I type. What else can I do to improve or replafox. And stuff like that <----- I typed improveplace the fox <--- or there!!! Lets try this again, I am trying to type improve or replace the fox, but the frickin browser keeps freezing!!! The first time, somehow, it even went ahead and minimized the browser. While I was typing this. WTF!!!!! Okay so I went ahead and tested what happens when I am typing this out, and I got some really interesting results. Whenever I start typing, it freezes FF for 5-7 seconds. It shows no cpu usage except maybe 1% or less until the 5-7 secons is up. After that it shows what I have typed up until that point, and then what happens? It does it again. Over and over again. It creates little tiny humps which seems to be when firefox is responsive in Process Explorer (taskman). Here, I'll show you what I mean in picture form. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47041069/Untitled2.png
