firefox is deleting my download history, I truly don't want firefox to do that. in earlier versions you could hold onto those items, i need to know where my downloads go to because i choose folder.

Hello greyghost7414, you can click Ctrl + Shift + H to open the Library window and then click Downloads to see your downloads. Then click the folder icon right to download item/folder to open that file's containing folder.

see for more : How can I manage my downloaded files?

you can see your downloads also if you type in location bar(aka address bar) about:downloads.

thank you

to a degree, but i can only see the last 4 days there should be more than 30 days worth of files.

if you use the scroll bar at the right you get only 4 days of downloads ( i think you don't set previous days to clear downloads in privacy panel)

thanks

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?

  • do not clear Browsing History and the Download history

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Same problem here. Above solutions don't work / don't apply.

browser.download.manager.retention is set to 2. Downloads are cleared every @#$%ing time ever since I upgraded to #$%^ing 21.0.

Or rather, about:downloads still shows the files, but it seems like extensions cannot find them (Download Statusbar, All-in-one Sidebar) anymore. What's more suspicious, I seem to remember they worked after I upgraded to 21.0, and stopped working only a week back or so. (Not sure about this, though.)

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

If you are in Private Browsing mode then only the about:downloads page works (show all download will open this page instead of the Library)

Firefox manages downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History)

  • Downloads are treated as history items: clearing history removes included download items and vice verse.
  • When downloads are in progress you see an animated download button on the Navigation Toolbar showing an estimate of the remaining time
  • The Download button gets a green highlight once all download are finished to make you aware that new downloads are available.
  • Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item.

The Library stores the data in the places.sqlite file and the classic Download Manager (browser.download.useToolkitUI = true) stores its data in the downloads.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder, so both are independent of each other.

I have this problem as well. My previous downloads can still be found in about:downloads as well as the Library, but not by clicking on the Downloads icon in the Navigation Toolbar. I have Firefox set to remember my browsing and download history, and the only history it clears on quit is my cache. I disabled that to see if that would fix the problem, but it didn't work. For the record I'm running version 22 on Windows 7, with Adobe Reader 11.0.3.37, Flash 11.8.800.94, and Adblock Plus 2.2.4.

Note that Firefox doesn't use the disk cache if you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cache. You can see that on the about:cache page (disk cache section is missing).
