I start up the laptop. Once password entered, i get the desktop. I click on firefox to take me to google and instead of doing so, I get the last two tabs of the websites i last visited. then I have to click on the third unused tab and click on google and then ask my question. It didn't used to be like this (since July 2012). I could go to the desktop, click on firefox and go straight to google images (although I didn't like this option and I would have preferred it to go straight to google search, but it never did, seem to go straight to google images which meant I then had to click on google search. Now it doesn't do this at all and I have to cope with the last two tabs of webpages and click on the X to get rid of them every single time. Most frustating. I use windows 7, vista and firefox as my search engine. Microsoft security essentials is the protective anti virus set up that came with the laptop.

Please Update to the latest Firefox 20.0.x version.

  • Help > About Firefox

The Firefox Firefox 14.0.1 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

I used the link you supplied to download latest version of Firefox. After downloading I restarted the system. I now don't get two tabs when I click on firefox, but its now just the one and it still doesn't go straight to google, so same problem, just one tab less. Thanx

hello janny, please try this: go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, click on profile folder/show folder and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there delete the file named user.js. hopefully this can address the issue...

Hi Janny

Did you try the second part of my above reply about a user.js file in the profile folder?

Your system details list show that such a file is present.

See also Help > Troubleshooting Information about how to go to the Firefox profile folder.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
