I recently purchased Adobe pro and I'm sure its no coincidence that I cannot access and pdf docs on the web, or a number of web sites

I get a pop up message headed "Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser. It goes on to refer to the configuration of the browser. This has only happened since I installed Adobe Acrobat pro. I have uninstalled Adobe Reader and tried a few other options suggested by Adobe and Firefox but nothing has worked. Google Chrome (just downloaded) works ok but I would prefer to stick with Firefox. However I have wasted a few hours already trying to get this sorted and I am behind with my work so need to move on.

I have the same problem with every web site I try. I have just taken one at random below.

It is best to disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Applications > Adobe PDF document : Use Adobe Reader

PDF files may also be found under another entry like Portable document.

It was actually the last sentence that solved it.
