spell check not working correctly
I just noticed that when I'm composing an email in AOL mail that the red underline would appear under parts of a correctly spelled word as if some portion of that word was misspelled which isn't the case. I contacted AOL and they said it was probably a browser problem which turns out it is. After disabling spell check, in Tools, the problem went away. Re enable and the problem returns. I have the English language dictionary installed and I added the English language dictionary add on. This seems to have alleviated the problem, some what, but not completely. It sometimes will not underline an obviously misspelled word. Never had this problem until I installed FF 16. There has to be a bug in FF 16. Please review and advise. Thanks
Chosen solution
Hi again Arejfour:
I believe the problem is fixed in Firefox 17 Beta 4 and Thunderbird 17 Beta 2: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=790475#c66
We need more beta testers so if you could try Firefox 17 Beta 4 (backup your Firefox profile first of course : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles )
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/ and let us know if FF17Beta4 fixes your problem, that would be wonderful.
Cheers! ...Roland

I reinstalled the US dictionary to get my spell check to at least work, but it's not very good. Many basic words it doesn't identify; I manually correct it in the memory.
Is this a bug or is Mozilla spell check not very good. I
see the response from cor-el. There is a bug and he has reported it to Mozilla. This bug has been around since V16
thanks, so there is nothing we can do about this until 17.0.1 is updated next month to the current beta, or install the beta now.
No way to manually fix this?
Is a Chromey future on the horizon?
Not that I'm aware of. Cor-el would be a much better person to answer your question.
that was a tongue and cheek remark suggesting abandonment of FF for Chrome driven by quality issues. I mean for gosh sakes, how many years have we had reliable spell checking in a gazillion languages that nobody knew existed and while this bug lingers for 2 releases?
Just to confirm how I FIXED the spell check problem, the RESET worked for me (Help>Troubleshooting Info>Reset Firefox) .
I don't know if it was a plugin or extension that broke it, but at least it's working now. Just remember to make a copy of your profile folder and take a screenshot of your plugins and stuff so you remember what was installed. Anyway, it's good to have it back so I don't look like a spelling retard.
Hi vanarie.
In what way was the spell checking not working for you?
This thread is about rich text formatting not working properly in Firefox and is causing issues with HTML code in the middle of a word/text.
