I think the last vbersion of FF was Number 14. 14 versions, and STILL this $%&/&/( otherwise-brilliant browser belies its brilliance by hogging gigabytes. Yuk

OK..... so tell me..... I'm pissed off the version 14 is just as great at hogging memory as version 3..... I've doubled the RAM on the laptop and we're still using over half for FF alone.

What next?

Thanks for that helpful tip madperson

I've just discovered an even smarter solution: it's called chrome and I managed to overcome my innate aversion to learning new cybertricks and discovered in an hour how to set it up and transfer all my Foxy bookmarks and settings. I've spent all evening catching up.... and in that time on FF I'd have had to close down FF and start over.... but chrome is still hogging less than half the memory that FF started up with, let alone the six-fold increase FF overloaded b4 midnite. So, go on.... make my day. Tell me about the penguins and pandas in the sandbox....
