I just built a new computer and I have it hardwired to my wireless router (belkin). I ran a speed test and that doesn't appear to be the problem. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2171080700.png

I already reset firefox and uninstalled/reinstalled it. I also swapped my DNS server to OpenDNS which didn't help. The same thing happens in chrome on my desktop but not on either of my two laptops.

I'm running windows 7 on a solid state while i store the rest of my programs on a 1TB drive.

My build: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge 3.5GHz GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit

What anti-virus do you have installed? Some (F-Secure if one) seem to cause problems with Firefox download speeds.

more options

I have the free version of AVG

more options

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

I started firefox in safe mode. My two extensions AVG and Skype don't seem to be a problem. I turned off hardware acceleration and it might have a small positive effect but my load time still drags. My drivers are all up to date and I don't have any themes downloaded.

Any help from the Net log in the Web Console (Web Developer > Web Console; Ctrl+Shift+K)?

This entry shows a 10 seconds load time:

[18:25:16.284] GET https://www.facebook.com/ajax/pagelet/generic.php/MoreStoriesPagelet?ajaxpipe=1&ajaxpipe_token=.... [HTTP/1.1 200 OK 10733ms]

Others aren't fast as well, but not that slow.

(you can hide the CSS errors by removing the check-mark in their corresponding boxes)

Does it make any difference if you boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test?

makes a huge difference. cuts the load times down to less then a second. next step?

It is possible that security software (firewall, anti-virus) is blocking Firefox somehow.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I know this sounds odd, but try to downgrade to Flash 10.3. Solution 2: Downgrade Flash. There are reports this fixes the issue.
