When I click on a 'contact' icon in any site to contact support, etc, instead of a getting a single compose screen, multiple compose screens continue to open.

Additional compose screens continue until I am finally successful in closing Firefox.

I tried this with Internet Explorer and I don't have this program, so I assume my Firefox settings need fixing.

Could you try changing your mailto setting on the following tab:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Applications

In the search box, type or paste mailto and pause while the list is filtered.

If you check the drop-down on the right side, make a note of the current email client or website. Is it correct? Are there multiple entries for the client/site? You could try switching to another one, saving that, then returning to the dialog and switching it back. Sometimes that improves things.

You also can reset all your Application options (AKA download actions) to the Firefox defaults. The file that stores this information sometimes becomes corrupted and needs to be regenerated (or edited, but its format is hard to clean up manually). This article has the steps: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files#w_reset-download-actions-for-all-file-types

After the reset, go back into Application options to select your preferred mail site again.

Thank you, JSCHER2000. The mailto client was Windows Live Mail, which I don't use. Changed the setting to my client, Yahoo, and it works as it should. This has annoyed me for some time so, again, many thanks for your assistance.
