Please read Basic Troubleshooting, which explains some simple things you can do probably help with your problem. Slow startups and shutdowns are usually caused by add-ons.

Thanks, I had already done everything possible suggested, then yesterday after some days the problem cleared itself as if by magic! It's back to normal now? Oh well maybe the gremlins went back home!
