I am breathing a sigh of relief that I was able to retreat to FFv3.57 after installing 4.

FF4 promised blinding speed, useful tabs and improvements. In reality those cosmetic changes did not compensate for the mess it made of page manipulation. For some pages it locked out the use of ctrl with or minus to change the font size which I find very important with a laptop screen. Even worse though, I constantly highlight text for copy and paste using either shift and the arrow keys or left click and the touch pad. When the highlight hits the screen top, bottom or sides and there is more info 'off screen' it automatically scrolls, or did. FF4 only scrolled up and just hit the wall for down or sideways requiring some non intuitive combinations of arrow and click work that easily broke the highlighting to pieces. No way I could live with that.

I tried FF5 beta to see if it fixed the problem but it didn't. I then got worried and cranky until luckily I found 3.57 saved in my download directory. Reinstalled that and joy, it all works as it should again. My advice is make sure you have a v3 copy to go back to before you try v4 on your machine.

Geoff.

In your own interests, you should update to v3.5.19 by clicking Help | Check For Updates.

The version you've reinstalled is vulnerable to attack in many ways and you risk system security by installing it. The most prevalent threat concerns a recent security breach at an SSL Provider called Comodo whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were released. These can be used to create any site like online banking and v3.5.7 will not warn you that the site is a fake. These certificates were blacklisted in 3.5.19, 3.6.16 and above and the current version.
