When I start it up it shows two two nested windows on the screen, has a Firefox yellow tab in the corner, does not display the toolbar bookmarks, the back and forth buttons do not work and there is no page refresh. No clue what is going on.

Every time I open up Firefox it appears to open two nested and linked windows, each with their own minimize, maximize and close buttons but the both work the same. The homepage does not come up, the back and forth buttons do not work. Both the refresh button and F5 do not work. The Bookmark Toolbar does not show up until I disable it in View and then re-enable it and this causes the outer nested window to disappear or close.

I do not recognise this problem, maybe a screenshot will help.

Could you be seeing Restore previous session - Configure when Firefox shows your most recent tabs and windows ?

This issue can be caused by an extension or theme that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

That seems to clear things up. How do I figure out where the heart of the issue lies?

Enable the themes then the extensions one by one, and possibly that may need a restart of firefox in some instances. Eventually yo will find out what is causing it.

If you have a lot of extensions to test split them in half and half again as a faster method of testing.

NoScript may be causing this. If you have the NoScript extension then try to update to the latest dev version or check the NoScript forum.

Thank you very much. It was a color mod which was throwing it off. Now everything is back to normal. Thanks again!
