When visiting certain websites, Firefox doesn't display the sites heading and sometimes the text correctly. It appears broken and unreadable.

I've reinstalled a new version of Firefox and set all settings to default, yet the problem still continues. Running Windows 7 and tried several different browsers (IE, Safari, Chrome and Opera) and all seem to work fine. Only problem is with Firefox. The only time it works fine is when I don't allow site to use their own fonts. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Chosen solution

Are those sites using the Helvetica font?

There have been issues reported with old bitmap versions of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.

Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.

There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.

I have the same symptoms and on top of this it seems that I cant see interactive headers/sidebars.

Checking the Error Console it shows me errors that I previously have seen as HTML programming errors

i.e. Error: missing } after function body Source File: http://www.handball-world.com/o.red.c/dynamic/o.red-helpers.js Line: 243, Column: 21 Source Code:

var pop_height=Math.m

Error: s is not defined Source File: http://www.nba.com/ Line: 1905

This started yesterday and before hand I didn't had any problems.

I checked my font folder but couldn't find Helvetica or Geneva font.

Need help as it is driving me nuts ... Any suggestions?

@Bluppy,

Please do not use existing threads to ask a question, but start a new thread instead.

Then you also can provide troubleshooting information like your operating system and installed plugins (about:plugins), and extensions (Tools > Add-ons) and we will be better able to help you.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

You could also try installing Greasemonkey: http://www.greasespot.net/

...and then run this script, without uninstalling the font, which may be useful in other applications: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/76541

I just found out problem is with Adbock plus which blocks the certain websites to run fully. If u have installed Adblock plus plugin, go to Adblock plus preferences and remove the tick mark of the website which show only texts.
