Multiple Sound Instances Pop Up in Mixer (Volume goes nuts)

more options

Look, I like watching movies and youtube on the big screen with the sound system. Firefox keeps making a new (usually maxed out) slider in the volume mixer and tries to blow around $2500 worth of speakers (JUST speakers, not counting cost of the cabinets). It's happened more than ten times in the last couple of months and I'm getting freakin mad. I've been using this setup for over ten years, until this crappy piece of modern engineering made it impossible to control the volume.

Hey there,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with Firefox and the volume control on your sound system. I understand how frustrating it can be when the volume goes out of control and puts your expensive speakers at risk.

As a Firefox Support volunteer, I'd like to assist you in resolving this issue. It seems that Firefox is creating multiple sound instances in the volume mixer, causing the volume to go haywire. To address this problem, I recommend trying the following steps:

Update Firefox: Make sure you're using the latest version of Firefox, as newer updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can help resolve issues like this.

Clear cache and cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help eliminate any temporary data that might be causing conflicts with the volume control. You can do this by going to the Firefox menu, selecting "Options," then "Privacy & Security," and finally clicking on the "Clear Data" button.

Disable browser extensions: Sometimes, certain browser extensions can interfere with the volume control. Try disabling any extensions you have installed and see if the issue persists. You can do this by going to the Firefox menu, selecting "Add-ons," and then disabling the extensions one by one.

Test with a different browser: To determine if the issue is specific to Firefox or a more general problem, try using a different browser and see if you encounter the same volume control problem. If the issue doesn't occur in another browser, it's more likely a Firefox-related issue.

If these steps don't resolve the problem, please let me know, and I'll be happy to further assist you. Providing additional details about your system configuration, such as the version of Windows 10 you're using, can also help in troubleshooting the issue.
