Firstly and this may be a hint, my thunderbird will not up date it attempts to load with update failed.

I updated manually to level 78.0 (32 bit) after being nagged to update and both of my email accounts that use mail.livemail.co.uk as its server will not get mail when SSL is switched on, it will if there is no encryption. This used to work along with it still working geting mail from my iphone with the same settings inc SSL on those accounts

Any Ideas please, it is not an firewall issue I have tried that, also I have no problems getting mail from hotmail accounts

When you tried to connect with the recommended SSL/TLS settings, did you get an error with something like 'unsupported version of security protocol'? What is the security/AV app, and is it scanning the TB profile folder or secure (SSL) connections? Note that auto-updates from 68 to 78 have not been enabled in TB itself, although some external updating apps have prompted updates.

Thanks for replying, I think I have solved it by changing the settings to STARTTLS and they worked again.

So only issue is that I cannot get TB to update when requested

What is the current version, and where is the update 'request' coming from - TB or another app? If you're on 78, the only official update is to 78.0.1.

So I have been nagged over the last few weeks that the update had failed and I should download the latest version, this in TB. So a few days ago I did that from the Mozilla site and loaded V78.0, that’s when the mail issues started. Today I got another nag saying it had failed to update again and I should down load the latest version. Again clicked on the option and downloaded the latest from from Mozilla site so now have 78.0.1.

As it stands the next update will probably fail and I will have to do it manually again

Back to the question about the security/AV app on the computer; Kaspersky is one app known to cause update issues.
