Thank you very much for any and all help you can provide to a 71 year old man who just started using Firefox. I love Firefox!

Hi Rob!

Where your favourites (or bookmarks, as they are referred to in Firefox) are saved is going to depend on what browser you are using. If you are using Firefox, your bookmarks are going to be saved inside of Firefox. If you are using Internet Explorer, your favourites are going to save in there.

Is there a particular reason that you would like your favourites to save in Internet Explorer instead of Firefox? Perhaps I've misunderstood your question.

Hi Wesley,

I browse in Firefox and I imported my old bookmarks from internet explorer. One reason I stayed with internet explorer was the ease with which I could access every one of individual files. I had groupings pertinent info of a topic like New Computer that I saved articles, sales info and warranties. I could just go to file to re-read things when necessary. Now using Firefox I would like to use that easy to access favorites from internet explorer on the left side. I'd like it to be the only place I have showing favorites in Firefox. I don't want or need other places to store my new favorite info. I simply what to erase any favorites that are not in that internet explorer favorite list and take every other place I could store them on Firefox and remove them. Then when I hit the star to save to favorites it goes straight into my 20+ years of saved internet explorer info favorites only. I want to remove any other favorite sections from Mozilla, Bing or other. Just IE. I sign into Firefox and on the left side of the page I see IE favorites only.

Thank you very much for help, Rob Auerbach Rob Auerbach

Sorry for the delay!

So Firefox has three main folders that it stores bookmarks in: the Bookmarks Toolbar folder, Bookmarks Menu folder and the Other Bookmarks folder. You can't remove those, but each time you save a bookmark by pressing the star, you will be asked what folder you want to save the bookmark in.

By default, if you don't pick a folder, your bookmarks is automatically saved to the Other Bookmarks folder, which is basically just unsorted bookmarks.

Most people will save their bookmarks into the Bookmarks Menu folder.

My guess is that, if you imported your bookmarks from Internet Explorer into Firefox, all of your Internet Explorer bookmarks are probably in a folder called Imported From Internet Explorer, or something like that. And I'm guessing that if you look in that folder, you will probably see the structure and sorting of bookmarks and folders that you had in Internet Explorer.

What you can do in that case is use the Library window to move those bookmarks out of that Imported From... folder into the Bookmarks Menu folder. See Sort your bookmarks to quickly find the ones you want.

As a side note, Firefox gives you some generic bookmarks when you first install it. Stuff like a link to the Mozilla website. You can remove those bookmarks if you want to.

Also, a good tip that I usually recommend is adding the Bookmark Menu Button to your Firefox toolbar. This is a much easier way to access your bookmarks and a lot of users find it much less convoluted than using the Library button (the stack of books button).
