Firefox still remembers URLs of sites I have visited, whatever I do

Hi there,

I do apologise, as I know that this question has been asked before, but the official solutions simply don't work. I need Firefox to completely forget all URLs I visited, but even after I go to the privacy settings and delete everything via "Clear your recent history", re-install the browser and even perform a reset, FF still suggests URLs when I start tying in the address line. Perhaps there is some good (freeware) programme that would take care of this problem? I am using the newest FF version under Windows 7. I'm not really tech-savvy, I'm afraid...

Many thanks in advance!

Hi, Have you tried unchecking the options under 'Address Bar' settings. Options > Privacy and Settings > Address Bar

You can rename/remove places.sqlite and delete places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to clear all history stored in this file.

Firefox should create a new places.sqlite file and recover the bookmarks that are also stored in this file from a recent backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Ah, it was THAT easy! I feel quite stupid now. Thanks so much, that worked.

Changing the settings for the address bar only hides these URLs and do not actually remove them, so they will still show if you re-enable items that show in the location/address bar.

If you want to remove these items from the history then you need to take more effort.

Many thanks, I've now followed your recommendations, too.
