Sometimes when I open a new tab it opens slowly and causes all the other tabs to be unviewable until that tab loads.

This is a new development for Firefox. All tabs, even ones that had loaded, all show a spinning icon until the last page loads. This is significantly frustrating. Sometimes, Firefox never recovers and I have to restart it. It then restarts with no problem

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Just restarting Firefox has the problem go away temporarily, so this doesn't really help.

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

Yes, restarting in safe-mode fixes the problem. But so does just restarting Firefox.

I've attached a picture of what each tab shows when loading slowly.

That look like a player waiting for a clip to play. What is the address of that?
