You may copy and paste some webmail content from the Firefox browser.

if you actually want all your emails on a hard drive or memory stick you need to look for other solutions. Possibly consider installing and using Thunderbird

Hi John99, ThaNKS FOR YOUR REPLY. I have one folder from my web based e-mail account that I want to copy to the flash driver. It covers all the bits and bobs for my upcoming trip next March. As my laptop had problems a few days ago, it made me realise I should have all that information somewhere else. Someone told me that if I highlight a message and then click on the 3 horizontal bars on the top right beside the bookmarkd icon, click save, click 'usb', and save, that should do it. It does but it seems to transfer everything, and I can't find the message I wanted to save there. Any ideas?

The folders of webmails seen on Firefox are unlikely to actually contain the emails themselves. I am not aware of any method from Firefox of generating such a folder of emails. There are however workrounds, but you need to be careful especially if any of this is important such as travel tickets with barcodes.

What you are probably going to have to do is open each webmail individually and copy it. You have two main slightly different options. You may test them out by trying to copy from this forum page before trying with emails. That will give you an idea of the problems you could run in to.

Save the full individual webmail as a web page from Firefox. The Keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S should do that. That is likely to save as more than one related file, and will need to be opened in a Browser such as Firefox, or something else such as some word processors that may handle such files. You may need that method if you have images such as barcodes or pictures etc in the webmail. Save just or mainly text You may copy and paste items or selections from the indifvdual webmail. That will work easily and well with plain text. Plain text files ae easy to open and view. You may also be able to copy and include images, but if doing that check carefully that you get what you want. You could save individual images, try with an avatar from this question thread. You may be able to select text including an image and paste it in to a word processing document, that may work, check it in each individual instance.

You should also be able to print hardcopies of pages from Firefox. Paper copies may be useful, but again check them carefully against the originals.

NOTE You may also get print to PDF options from Windows or The printer software that prints a page not on paper but as a pdf file Firefpx and many other apps can read and display pdf files. Again you need to take care that the pdf captures everything correctly. (There are Firefox addons that should be able to do that if Windows & your printer software can not do that itself.)

Yikees John99!

I am not a techi and had trouble understanding most of what you took the time and trouble to send to help me.

I have downloaded and installed Thunderbird (but I only wish it had been the car of my dreams!). It now contains my Hotmail. The folder I want to copy to my USB is there but I'm damned if I can figure out how to get it to the USB. Or perhaps I need to transfer the whole Thunderbird to my USB, but again it's not clear to this mere mortal how to do that.

Before I contacted you I WAS copying e-mails to Word and then sending them to the USB. I figured that out on my own! But it's laborious and didn't always work (insuffient space e.g.) I then printed out the airline tickets and have them safe and can always scan and send them on to the others who are travelling with me.

What I was trying to acheive with the USB is that I had everything with me and could refer to confirmation e-mails of bookings and costs of accommodation and a lot of ancilliary services (67 of them) when abroad in case of any disputes.

I sympathise if you feel you can go no further with your help. But if you have a simple lightbulb moment do let me know!

Hey, going as a group! You can also forward emails to others they will then keep copies on their own computers and smartphones. - Job done

I have not used Thunderbird much and not for the last two years. I do not recall it having any easy save or export emails options. It can be made to save emails on the local machine and you can then back up its profile. And it also has an archiving facility.

We have a Thunderbird section of this forum, and I can move your question over there, but it would be more likely to receive attention if you post a new question there yourself.

The link to ask a new T.bird Question is

That way you will get someone who understands tbird properly.

And some of their help articles, although I am not sure any of them will help you much

Sorry no simple lightbulb moment other than the opening paragraph. T.bird cars, they had quite a long history & kept changing.

I liked your lightbulb moment! I have posted in the Tbird section as you suggested and we'll see... It seems to me incredible there isn't a simple and straightforward way to carry out this task, and if I had the nous, I would get to work immediately to fill this gap in the market...

Thanks for all you help John99. (p.s I learned to drive in a T-bird!)
