Hi,

When I start up firefox, there is an extra window that opens, along with the one I have my homepages set on.

I think this started after an update of firefox. The address of the extra window is "add0n.com/gmail-notifier.html?type=upgrade&p=0.5.8&v=0.6.1.1".

It is so annoying, but I am worried it might be something sinister.

I did a mozilla support search last week, and found a suggestion that would give me some information relation to this problem (but I can't remember how I worded the search) that told me to type "about:" (but I can't remember the second part of it). It was something to do with browser and start up and pages. Sorry to be so vague.

The info I got from this was "browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID" and "browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone". I hope this means something to you.

Chosen solution

The page that is opening seems to be advising you that the Gmail™ Notifier addon has updated.

This could be an issue with the addon. Please consider contacting the addon developer and advising them about the issue.

You can also try updating the addon to see if the issue was already patched. To do so, please do the following:

  1. Open the addon manager
  2. Select Extensions from the sidebar
  3. Click the gear icon
  4. Select Check for Updates from the drop-down menu

Note: You may be required to restart Firefox to complete the installation of updated addons.

This page appears to be related to the Gmail™ Notifier addon. This is probably an addon that you have downloaded onto Firefox.

For some reason, this page was probably setup as another homepage. To fix this, you will probably simply need to change your homepage from the Firefox options.

You can find more information about doing this from this Mozilla support article:

Thank you for your response.

I have already checked my homepage settings and it is set as mozilla firefox start page and nothing else is there.

Yes I do have gmail notifier and have for a good while, this only started after an update.

Any other suggestions.?

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.
