why does firefox have to do it's updates at 3pm 9/8/15
I am absolutely fed up with the time firefox decides to do it's updates. Most of the time it ruins the games i am trying to play, but today it has cost me money £150 to be exact. Spoiling the games is bad enough with the lag because of the updates but when it costs me money then frankly that is just unacceptable. Why on earth do updates at 3pm UK time on a Sunday afternoon.Surely these updates can be done in the early hours when most people are sleeping,i realise that people turn their computers off,but i'm not one of them and the reason i leave mine on is in the hope that the updates will be done whilst i am sleeping. Also i have ticked the box to stop sites following me yet for some reason they still do,what's that all about. Firefox seems to be the best browser for the games i play and the sites reccomend Firefox,so it's not as if i have a great deal of choice.I have tried other browsers and the games work but not aswell as Firefox

Hi, you can control whether updates are automatic. Please see the Update tab in Advanced panel - Accessibility, browsing, network, updates, and other advanced settings in Firefox. I suggest 'Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them.' That way you will only get a notification that an update is available - which you should install as soon as convenient.
If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

The Firefox 39.0.3 update was released on Friday Aug 7 Pacific time. Keep in mind that the main Mozilla office is on the west coast of the US, like an 8 - 9 hour offset from you. AFAIK, the "update"is triggered from the main office as it always seems to be turned on during "normal" weekday office hours. Plus many times the release is "throttled" where not every PC will "get" the update the first time the update server is "pinged and the level of the "throttle" can vary.
Also, not only does a PC need to be running - but Firefox needs to be open to be able to check for updates. Firefox doesn't run a separate updater process as some other browsers do. Basically the "check for updates" is done once every 24 hours - not every time Firefox is launched.
As far as "do not track" - it's not mandatory for websites to honor that feature and even websites that do honor it "push the limits" with how they handle it.
