Hi,

Since updating Firefox I cannot view banking information. I login but everytime I go to look at other transactions I get 'your session has ended' or 'session timeout'. Works on another computer using Firefox 38.0.05 but not mine. I have searched help and tried so many things, maybe problem with Java, plugins or security just don't know. ANZ Bank cannot help (very frustrating) because it works on other computer using v38.0.05 but not mine. Any ideas as to why it now no longer works using firefox v39 would be greatly appreciated. Only other thing I can think of doing is try to go back to v38.0.05 but have read that doesn't always solve problems.

Regards Cheryl.

Have you this problem (log out very quickly) only on your bank website? I know banks websites have strong security parameters and log out if there is no activity on the page during for a specific period of time (a few minutes).

Hi, just tried that - logged in and then as soon as log out button came up I clicked log out and got the same message 'Why your session has ended'. Very stange.

Forgot to mention if you don't know ANZ banking, you select Login from their website which brings up a pop-up window where you enter login details if that pop-up window makes a difference to settings.

Maybe it is a problem of cache or cookie.

To check it, open a Private Window (with shortcut Ctrl + Shift + P) and log in to your bank website.

Just tried that but same outcome, pop-up window lets me login but when I select logout button get 'session ended'. Looks like this one is a difficult one, thanks for all the suggestions it is appreciated and I will try anything.

I just want to make it clear. Your problem is: when you log in to your bank website, you are authenticated, but after a very short time, the website automatically log out. Is that right?

Yes that is correct, I am authenticated and the first page displays correctly showing me accounts and balances. It is when I select logout or select any link to display transactions or make payment I get the timeout.

What kind of connection do you use?

You can check the connection settings here:

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

You can check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Hi cor-el, I have tried everything you said no luck. Started at the top and set to 'no proxy'. Changed/set everything in 'Firefox connection settings' which included the about:config settings network.dns.disableIPv6 to set its value to true and added network.dns.disablePrefetch set to true. Cleared cookies, cashe, history and check date time zone set correctly to Australia. Plus deleted and added Firefox to my internet security firewall which is AVG.

Only thing I haven't done is a full scan for malware which I can do but this will take a long time and will not be able to test and get back to any support suggestions for a while. Being in Australia it is not 5.30pm and some of you helpful people may be in other time zones (I also work part time and will not get home until 3.30pm tomorrow).

Thanks for all you suggestions, not things I would think or know about but still no luck.

Regards Cheryl.

I think we could determine if the problem is due to Firefox or your computer if you try with an other browser, or with the portable version of Firefox (download here).

Sounds good, I am just running a virus scan on the whole computer and it does look as if it has picked up a threat. When it has finished and I restart I will let you know what the status is and try the portable version as suggested if I still have problem, thanks.

Hi all, just an update virus scan cleaned out system but didn't fix login problem. Tried installing portable version of Firefox as suggested and ran that with no luck (same timeout issues), tried Google Chrome as well, no luck. I have tried on my husbands computer which is the same as mine except for programs on it and his version of Firefox is 39.0.05 and it doesn't have a problem. Definitely sounds like only something wrong with my computer but I just don't know what.

Anyway have to get some sleep now, any other suggestions will be tried tomorrow afternoon if I don't decide to throw this machine in the bin, very frustrating :o( Thanks again for all suggestion and I will check in tomorrow.
