Hi.

Welcome to the Mozilla Support Forum.

What do you need support with?

Mozilla shows rotating snippets on the about:home page to run different campaigns and these changes regularly.

You can consider to use another page as the home page.

If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page or if there are problems with a snippet then you can set this pref to an empty string value on the about:config page by deleting the current value via the right-click context menu (Modify) or a double-click.

  • about:config page: browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl (delete current value)

You can use these steps to remove downloaded snippets on the about:home page:

  1. Modify the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref on the about:config page and clear its value to an empty string
  2. Open the about:home page in a tab
  3. Open Web Console in this tab (Firefox menu button or Tools > Web Developer)
    https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Web_Console
  4. Run this command via the command prompt of the Web Console:
    gSnippetsMap.clear()
this removes snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set
  5. Close the tab with the about:home page
  6. Close and restart Firefox

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I wanted to quote a comment from Tyler about this:

Tyler Downer said

Thank you for taking the time to reach out. We are aware of the negative connotation. We aimed to appropriate the phrase and put a much more positive spin on it. In coming to the decision, we considered that there are many examples of wholesome colloquialisms that have been adopted to replace negative ones. Additionally, we’ve striven to frame the content and campaign itself positively. The shareable content is designed to be fun and quirky to further distance FoxYeah from the negative expression.

We realize that marketing is highly subjective. Our intention is not to offend our users, but try new things that will help Firefox get noticed. FoxYeah is intended as a memorable creative device to do this.

We appreciate your sharing your thoughts and your support to-date.
