I'm VERY frustrated with Firefox! It is CONSTANTLY hanging, scripts stopping everything when I try to watch videos, I check "Do Not Ask Me Again" and SECONDS later, it comes up again. I'm having a heck of a time even typing this. I've been on my computer for about 45 minutes, I've actually been able to USE IT for about FIVE of those minutes. Is it time to change to IE? I'm getting very disgusted with this constant hanging of Firefox and the inability to use my computer. Is there anything I can do to get it to run smoothly? I've reset Firefox multiple times and it STILL hangs and crashes. I'm ready to change to IE because I spend more time waiting than actually getting anything accomplished. I can't tell you how many times I've lost information because of a crash.

On Friday 11/14, I went in to my Options and checked "Enable Telemetry" so Firefox can see how bad it's running. Is that actually doing any good? It's been running horribly and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just letting them see how my computer runs for no reason but to allow them the ability to watch what I'm doing, not see how bad Firefox is "running."

Thanks to both of you for your help!! I really appreciate it! The suggestion, Restart with Add Ons Disabled, was what got it going again. Now I hope it stays this way!! It never works when I try to watch TV on here - that will be the ULTIMATE test! I really appreciate this! I'm adding this page to my FAVORITES because I can't believe how fast I'm typing AND I haven't seen that circle or FIREFOX IS NOT RESPONDING! It's like I have a brand new laptop!

Thanks so much! I'm SO glad this worked! I wish you could see the smile on my face :-)

Okay, do you have any extensions? Disabling any might help it run better. As far as I see I think a reinstalling it may be best for your problem. Whatever you do do not move to IE, it is a horrible browser.

I don't know what extensions are. If I uninstall and reinstall it, will I lose all of my Favorites? I don't want to go to IE, I had a lot of problems with it a couple of years ago and that's why I switched to Firefox. It was running great until a couple of months ago. Now I spend more time with "Firefox is Not Responding" and that little circle spinning than I do actually checking email or whatever else I want to do online. Thanks for your reply!

Okay, well enable sync and then it will backup your data. Then if you reinstall all your stuff might come back.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
  • In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
