How do I stop Firefox reverting to standard settings every time I turn off my PC?

more options

I set up my preferred icons history, print, home etc in the places I like them yet every time I turn off my PC the next day they are back to the standard set up & I have to do them all again, more than a little bit irritating as it has never been a problem before & only started happening when I upgraded to 33.1 Things like this seem to happen every time there is an upgrade, it is getting to the point where after years of using Firefox I am seriously considering looking around for a new default browser.

As if to illustrate my point when I just restarted Firefox after installing the troubleshooter add-on all my custom icon settings are gone AGAIN.
