I just bought a Windows 8 Dell Laptop, installed Firefox and now a number of key features on my bank's website that run javascript do not not work. (I know it's javascript, because when I click on certain links, "javascript:;" shows on the lower left portion of my screen.) Also, videos in Yahoo do not work. All of these items work on my Windows 7 laptop, and they also all work in IE.

I've done the following:

 - Reloaded Firefox
 - Reinstalled java
 - Enabled java
 - Checked and enabled extensions
 - Reloaded Flash
 - Cleared cache
 - Etc.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to resist going back to using just IE.

I've seen someone post a solution about going to safe mode and doing something, but the solution is not clearly worded. Pus, numerous folks have stated that this doesn't fix their issue.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

As I mentioned in my original post - I re-installed Firefox from scratch - so this would have been the same as resetting it. But just for grins, I did the reset, and it had no affect. The issue has something to do with Windows 8 and javascript (at least for my bank's website). Not sure what's causing the videos on Yahoo not to play. But the issue is squarely a Windows 8 and Firefox issue - my bank said other customers on Windows 8 and Firefox have had the same problem. They told me to use IE - which works. I'm almost at the point of just switching back to IE for good due to previous issues I had with Youtube videos not playing on Firefox when I got my Windows 7 laptop a couple of years ago.

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

No, this did not work.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

This post fixed the issue of no video on Yahoo on Firefox on Windows 8 for me.
